Well they're at it again. County commissioners plan to subtly make Haulover Beach access much more difficult by reducing the number of parking spaces available for Florida's only legal nude beach. They plan to build a boat storage facility right in the middle of the beach parking lot. Currently, you park in the lot right across from the beach, walk under a short tunnel and you are standing right on the beach. With the reduction of 100 spaces from the lot, this usually crowded lot will overflow and then beach goers will have to hike a mile to get to the beach. This storage facility wasn't even originally planned to be built at this location. There is no explanation from the county.
South Florida Free Beaches/Florida Naturists Association attended yesterday's commission meeting to protest the planned facility. You would think with all the popularity of Haulover Beach they would be trying to facilitate even more convenient parking and support of the beach than the other way around.
