Washington nudists celebrate the end of the world

Yup the ol' Mayan calendar says we're all checking out on Dec. 21st this year so the nudists at Fraternity Snoqualmie Family Nudist Park in Issaquah, Wa. plan to go out with a bang. They're having a celebration and will be showing the movies Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day.  My kinda folks!

UK nudist hotel ready for the Christmas season

The Clover Spa and Hotel in Birmingham England is gearing up for a strong holiday season this year.  Yes Virginia, it turns out there really are nudist hotels spotted around the globe.  I'd love to spend some time in a hotel where I could relax and go anywhere in my birthday suit without causing the end of the world.

Nudists protest at County Commission over Haulover parking

Well they're at it again.  County commissioners plan to subtly make Haulover Beach access much more difficult by reducing the number of parking spaces available for Florida's only legal nude beach.  They plan to build a boat storage facility right in the middle of the beach parking lot.  Currently, you park in the lot right across from the beach, walk under a short tunnel and you are standing right on the beach.  With the reduction of 100 spaces from the lot, this usually crowded lot will overflow and then beach goers will have to hike a mile to get to the beach.  This storage facility wasn't even originally planned to be built at this location.  There is no explanation from the county. South Florida Free Beaches/Florida Naturists Association attended yesterday's commission meeting to protest the planned facility.  You would think with all the popularity of Haulover Beach they would be trying to facilitate even more convenient parking and support of the beach than the other way around.

New Zealand nudist club holds open days

Well as the U.S. leaves Fall and heads on into Winter where most nudist clubs and nudists hibernate, it is Spring in sunny New Zealand!  The nudists there are taking advantage of the warmer days to get the word out about nudism.  Andrew and Sharlene Valk, who run Rotura Naturally nudist park opened it to the general public for a couple days this past weekend.  According to Mr. Valk the event was a grand success.  As a result, they are planning even more community outreach programs.  There's nothing like removing the wall of secrecy and wild guesses by the public as to what goes on at our nudist clubs.

New Zealand Court upholds nude jogging

In a case that's run for over a year, the High Court of New Zealand has overruled the conviction of Andrew Lyall Pointon for jogging nude in a remote forest. Based upon the complaint of one woman who saw him jogging nude in Oropi Bike Park he was arrested and convicted of offensive behavior.  The High Court, however, agreed that simple nudity is NOT offensive behavior.  Someone should explain that to the folks in Scotland or even the U.S. for that matter.  Kudos to New Zealand for a sane approach to simple nudity.

Naked Rambler continues his fight

Stephen Gough, aka the "Naked Rambler", has now spent years behind bars for the horrible crime against humanity of walking nude in Scotland.  To date, no one who has seen him walking nude has complained, that is, other than the police.  All they would have to do would be to release him and let him walk back to England but no, the idiots in the court system and government have to break him to save face.  Mr. Gough is now considering taking his case to European Court of Human Rights.  Let us hope he can receive some justice there since there is no justice in Scotland.

British Naturists take on the BBC

Well British Naturism (BN), the UK's voice for naturists, is taking the BBC and producer Andrew Marr to task for its historically inaccurate portrayal of various civilizations in its History of the World series.  Marr is rather like our PBS star, Ken Burns.  He depicted Caribs, Australian Aborigines, and other tribes as clothed when, in fact, they wore no clothes during their time.  The BBC's response was that they wanted to target the widest possible audience and offend no one so they designed costumes for the reenactors to wear.  Note: The BBC doesn't have the same restrictions as U.S. television networks regarding nudity.  They are able to and have broadcast shows with nudity in them.

San Francisco nudists continue fight for freedom

San Francisco nudists are not going to go quietly into the night apparently.  San Francisco, one of the most tolerant cities in the nation, is trying to "normalize" itself by banning public nudity and thereby coming into conformity with the rest of our prudish, puritan nation.  My best wishes to those nudists who are willing to fight for their freedom to be nude.

Nudist runs for honorary mayor of Land O'Lakes

Well the political season is upon us full force.  With more hot air generated from all sides this election, it's refreshing to see a light-hearted race.  In Land O'Lakes, which is in Pasco County, Fl., nudist Pam Oakes is running for the position of Honorary Mayor.  It is very appropriate too since Land O' Lakes hosts several nudist resorts and Pasco County itself has more nudist resorts and clubs then any other county in the U.S.  She is running on a platform of international tourism which is always good for the economy.  Our hats (and everything else) are off to her.  Good luck in the race.

Boulder's topless war

Well the the war against the horrible nudists is still on in Boulder, CO.  Catherine Pierce, a friendly, normal lady is still under attack by the media around the world as well as some of her neighbors.  The reason?  She likes to garden topless.  And get this, it is totally legal in her city for her to be topless.  This doesn't stop the Pierce's from being harassed though.  People still get so pissed off at seeing a woman topless.  Unbelievable.

Skinny dip record protested

Well the folks in New Zealand are trying for the world skinny dip record this year on Dec. 1.  The record so far is 413 skinnydippers last year in the UK.  The fly in the buttermilk though is a guy by the name   Bob McCoskrie who is the national director of Family First NZ which I assume is a religious fundamentalist group much like those that plague us here in the U.S.  It's the same old objection.  What if there are children present?  My answer is: "So, what if there are children present?"  Do you suppose children don't know what the human body looks like?  Do you think they should never see the works of art like Venus de Milo or Michaelangelo's David?  Give me a break.

San Francisco to ban public nudity

Well it seemed too good to be true and it was.  San Francisco, a vibrant, interesting, and quirky sort of city has always taken a live and let live policy towards public nudity.  It isn't illegal for a person to be nude in public in the city currently but that is about to change because a city supervisor has introduced a proposal to ban public nudity in the city.  The nudity was confined mostly to the Castro District, a gay enclave inside the city, and the nudists were mostly men congregating in a public square.  No one was harming anyone but I guess that's not enough for some.

Canadian nudists battle authorities

Well the battle continues.  This time with our neighbors to our north in Canada. Police have organized an operation titled "Operation Nude" to shut down naturists from using a park where skinnydipping has been going on for over 80 years without incident.  I say again, what pisses off people so much about the nude human body?  It's not like these folks are plotting terrorism or anything.  They mind their own business.

UK Nudist Reverend "Comes Out"

Well it's refreshing to see a man of the cloth admit he is a nudist.  Nudists come in all shapes, colors, and beliefs.  We've known for years we have ministers, priests, pastors, etc. as part of the nudist movement but they, along with school teachers, keep their naturist activities a closely guarded secret for fear of ostracization in their communities. U.K. Reverend Bob Horrocks participated in a TV documentary on BBS's channel 4 titled: 'Is it a sin to bare our flesh?'  Of course that spurred an outcry of negative comments.  I find it hilarious that the Brits are so incensed that a church man prefers simple naturism on holiday and yet everyone in the world is jumping at the bit to see Prince Harry in the nude?  Can you say mixed up values?

Toplessness comes to Boston

Holly Van Voast, an intrepid fighter for women's rights has won another round.  This time it is against Boston's famed subway system, the MTA.  She just won her court battle for riding an MTA train topless.  The whole premise is, if it is legal for a man to remove his top in public than why not  woman?  Indeed.  Go Holly. It seems that even when it is legal in areas women are unaware of their rights or are coerced against using their right to go topless.  It is totally legal in the state of New York for a woman to go topless anywhere a man is permitted to go topless (which is pretty much everywhere).  It is also legal in Austin, TX. for a woman to go topless.

Naked Rambler re-arrested

Scotland is trying really hard to prove it is the most anal retentive country in the world.  The Naked Rambler, Stephen Gough, has been in prison for over 6 years standing up for his principles.  He originally attempted to hike Great Britain in the nude.  All went well until he got to Scotland where they continue to play games with him.  They arrest him for what we know as "cs" charges like disturbing the piece, throw him in jail when he refuses to dress for court, release him, then re-arrest him as he leaves the prison.  Why not  just let him just walk out of Scotland then Scotland's law enforcement and court system won't look like such horse's asses.  It's not like he is an axe murder.

Nudist motel in Florida = Hysterics

Well Florida's newest nudist venue, Fawlty Towers Resort Motel in Cocoa Beach, FL., seems to be doing well after its conversion to a nudist resort on May 1.  They're booked solid.  More power to them!

On the other hand, it's managed to bring the typical hysteria about nudists and nudism in general to the town's government and residents.  It will depreciate property values, it's close to a park where children go (oh, the humanity!), it will ruin the town's reputation, it will turn the town into a sleaze spot!  I say again, what it is it about the nude human body that pisses so many people off?????

Is nudity harmful to children?

Well the debate goes on in New Zealand about whether or not nude beaches should be allowed (they are currently). Columnist Kevin Sampson has a real accurate take on the subject.

"There is no evidence that the sight of the naked human adult is likely to cause children harm.

Studies show that the experience is either benign or positive. Children are not born believing certain parts of their bodies are dirty, or offensive. They have to be taught that by adults who do it because of their own insecurities or simply to conform to social mores."
